2011 HOKIE OPEN: The Fourth Annual Hokie Open will once again kick off the start of college wrestling in VA as more than 200 wrestlers are expected to descend on the Civic Center in Salem, VA for another day of intense competition featuring VA Tech and other top-flight college teams. Many of the area's college wrestling fans will be joining us on Saturday for the Duals and Sunday  for the Hokie Open as the 2011 - 2012 season gets underway.

276 wrestlers from more than 20 college teams (VA Tech, VMI, University of Virginia, George Mason University, United States Air Force Academy, University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University, Appalachian State University, McDaniel College, Newberry College, The Citadel, Old Dominion University, Ohio Valley University, Ohio University, King College, Duke University, Gardner-Webb University, American University, Liberty University and the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga) will hit the mats Sunday, November 6.

Follow the results ONLINE & REAL-TIME: Go to the KapWrestling.net Web site for our D5 SOFTWARE LIVE BOUT BOARD results. All you need to do is REGISTER as a user (No Cost), select the Hokie Open 2011 tournament choice (No Cost) and you can view the tournament results in rich detail, as well as view updated brackets as the tournament progresses. Follow certain teams, follow certain wrestlers, follow the results in order as they happen, AND view the current match progress on all 10 mats, showing period time, score, as well as the sequence of scoring.  You will not believe the various ways you can slice and dice the data and follow your favorite teams and wrestlers.

2010 HOKIE OPEN: The Third Annual Hokie Open once again kicked off the start of college wrestling in VA as approximately 400 wrestlers descended on Salem, VA for another day of intense competition featuring VA Tech, Iowa State, Appalachian State, the Citadel, Duke, Kent State, King College, Liberty University, Lynchburg, Mercyhurst, NC State, Newberry College, Ohio State, Ohio University, Old Dominion, Team DelMarVA, UNC, UNC-Greensboro, UT Chattanooga and UVA among other top-flight college teams. Many of the area's college wrestling fans joined the Hokies on Saturday for the Duals and Sunday  for the Hokie Open as the 2010 - 2011 season got underway.

2009 HOKIE OPEN: The second annual Hokie Open was once again held at the Salem Civic Center. Almost 400 wrestlers brought their best to Salem, VA for a day of intense competition. Wrestling began at approximately 9:45 AM and wrapped up at 8:00 PM. ODU put on an impressive show as they crowned five champs (James Nicholson, 125; Kyle Hutter, 133; John Nicholson, 149; Chris Brown, 165; and, Jesse Strawn, 197). The Hokies had three finalists (Jesse Dong, 157; Matt Epperly, 165; and, David Marone, 285) and several other place winners (Nick Murray, 5th at 141; Matt Rosen, 4th at 149; Brian Stephens, 6th at 149; and, Tommie Spellman, 3rd at 184). Congrats to all of the wrestlers!

2008 HOKIE OPEN: The inaugural 2008 Hokie Open was held at the Salem Civic Center on November 14, 2008. The tournament kicked off at 10:00 AM on eight mats.

Six wrestlers competed representing VA Tech. Five Tech wrestlers won titles at their respective weights and Tim Miller took fourth place at 197 pounds. Will Livingston (133 pounds), Chris Diaz (141 pounds), Pete Yates (149 pounds), Jesse Dong (157 pounds) and Anthony Trongone (174 pounds) all won titles while wrestling unattached.
